Nebo Welsh Congregational Chapel - Blaengarw (1904)

The pastor reported, '70 new members admitted.'

From, 'The South Wales Daily News', 12th December 1904.

This report was from a singing festival nearby:

The afternoon meeting began in the midst of the fire. It flamed in a second. Singing – never was heard the note that was heard here this afternoon – volume, strength, tenderness, sweetness, harmony, adoration and all this inspired! During the meeting the conductor did try to rein us in a little and put a check on us for the sake of the evening service – lest we should destroy ourselves. It was of no use. They would listen only to the spirit, and that clear, plain, fiery, audible, in the heart of the people. Girls are praying sorrowfully: – some swooning, some blanching, and paling and others being transformed as they cried out. … Some were on their feet crying and shouting to heaven; at times everyone calling out of the same time. We became so unconscious of ourselves that we did not know what happened, what was said or what was sung….

This meeting was adjourned from 4:30 to 6. Singing was heard everywhere… Everyone settled down immediately for another voyage on the sea of the spirit. When the conductor began his work reverent fear ruled over the place – and we felt the veil between us and the spiritual being torn open – we and the spiritual were naked in each other’s presence. Quietness Expectancy, Readiness…
